Fresher’s Welcome Program for MCA New Batch
The Freshers’ Welcome Program for the new MCA batch was held on 4th November in Sir J C Bose Seminar Hall. This event helps strengthen the bond between the existing students and the newcomers. The new students were delighted to receive a warm welcome from the MCA second-year students. The program was inaugurated with speeches by the Principal and the Head of the MCA Department. Mr. Varij Nayan Mishra and Ms. Ahana Basak were crowned Mr. and Ms. Fresher, respectively. |

Article Writing Competition
Topic: “Being a Computer Engineer, How Can I Contribute to the Development of Society” On the occasion of World Students’ Day, celebrated on 15th October 2025, the Department of MCA organized an Article Writing Competition. A total of 46 students enthusiastically participated, expressing their thoughts on the given topic through traditional pen-and-paper writing. By the end of the session, many students shared that they felt genuinely satisfied to have written creatively and independently—without relying on AI tools like ChatGPT. The articles were evaluated by an esteemed panel of judges: Mr. Ranjan Chetri, Mr. Rajib Chetri, and Ms. Rimni Chakraborty. We are proud to announce that Mr. Rakesh Kumar Jana from MCA 1st Semester was declared the winner of the competition. |

Student Induction Program, 2025
The Student Induction Program (SIP) for the new MCA batch was organized to help newcomers transition smoothly into the institution. The program aims to foster bonding, holistic development, and awareness about students’ academic and personal growth.
Our esteemed guests, with their vast experience in software development and IT project management, inspired the students to pursue continuous learning and take an active role in both curricular and extracurricular activities at the institute. A 30-minute alumni interaction session served as a valuable experience for all MCA students, offering real-world insights into the professional journey and work environment of a software engineer. |

Internal Hackathon for SIH 2025
The Internal Hackathon for Smart India Hackathon (SIH) 2025 was inaugurated by the Principal, SIT and SPOC of the event. In his inaugural address, Principal sir emphasized the importance of out-of-the-box thinking and how innovative ideas can be transformed into impactful products, inspiring students to strive for excellence. A total of 9 teams comprising 29 male and 20 female participants from the MCA and BCA departments took part in the event. In accordance with the guidelines of SIH 2025 and to promote female participation in innovation, each team included at least one female member. The team led by Mr. Varij Nayan Mishra emerged as the winner of the internal hackathon for their project on the problem statement (SIH25033): “AI-Based Smart Allocation Engine for PM Internship Scheme.” The event successfully fostered innovation, teamwork, and problem-solving skills among students, paving the way for their active participation in Smart India Hackathon 2025. |

Praveen Mukhia Titimus, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science and Applications, St. Joseph’s College, Darjeeling Participants: 120 students from MCA and BCA The Department of Computer Applications, Siliguri Institute of Technology, organized a thought-provoking session titled “3H: The Complete Student” on 7th August 2025. The session highlighted that a truly complete student learns with the Head to acquire knowledge, the Heart to cultivate empathy and compassion, and the Hands to transform ideas into meaningful actions. Rev. Praveen Mukhia Titimus delivered an inspiring and interactive talk that encouraged students to pursue holistic development by balancing intellect, emotion, and action. Celebrating International Women's Day (8th March,2022) Department of Computer Application celebrated Internal Women's Day to express love and gratitude towards women's contributions. Students visited and interviewed five women who gave their lifetime effort to make family and society happy, prosperous and recognized for their level of work but not their spirit of work. Interviewed women are presented with sharee, sweets and rose to make them feel they are precious to society. The female staff who have a major role in cleanness of our institute have been recognized by roses and sweets. Students expressed their gratitude to the lady faculties by giving a greetings card and a flower. Students prepared one video composing all the interview and their activities, presented it in the Sir J C Bose seminar hall, and uploaded it to the college Facebook page. |

Workshop on Amazon WebServices (16th March,2022) Department of Computer Application organized a workshop on "Amazon Wes Service" on 16th March 2022. Mr RanajyotiChakraborty, SrArchitech, Simpsoft Solution Pvt. Ltd shared his valuable knowledge on cloud storage. MCA 1st year and 2nd year students attend the workshop to get idea of initiating the project work in cloud. Students explore various features of Amazon Web Service and basic tricks to open free account in AWS. |

Webinar on “AI and ML: Future Opportunities” (9th April 2022) Department of Computer Application organized a webinar on "AI and ML: Future Opportunities" on 9th April 2022. Learning Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning opens a world of opportunities to develop advanced applications in various fields. Dr.Rik Das, a Lead Software Engineer of Siemens Technology and Services Pvt. Ltd., was the keynote speaker at this event. He enlightened the students about the widespread applications of AI and ML and the roadmap to becoming a ML practitioner. More than 100 students from the technical courses participated in this event and received motivation to learn machine learning. |

Invited Talk on Social IoT: The current trends (11th April 2022) Department of Computer Application organized an invited Talk on "Social IoT: current Trends" on 11th April 2022. Dr Adrija Bhattachaya, Assistant Professor of Heritage Institute of Technology, Kolkata, addressed MCA students regarding the importance of IOT in our daily life.
